Goodbye Jeep, Hello Chevy Truck

We bought two jet skis! They both sit on one trailer. Byron rides the 2003 Yamaha and I ride the 2003 Kawasaki. Since the roads on the Big Island were constructed to go straight up and down the mountains instead of a gradual climb that slowly turns up the mountain... our Jeep could not pull the jet skis up the mountain. Even though we down shifted and did everything we should do while driving and towing... the Jeep could not make it without straining (the Jeep is a straight 6). So, Byron and I decided to buy another vehicle that could do the job. Byron sent me 100's of craigslist ads of all sorts of trucks, suvs, etc. But I told him lets just wait for the sale of the Jeep and the right vehicle will come along. I just needed Byron to tell me what kind of engine I needed to look for to guarantee that we'd be able to pull the trailer. So he gave me all the info I needed. We knew that we wanted to get this vehicle decision right! Because buying and selling a car is a major pain!

Byron posted the Jeep on Craigslist, and five days later someone called and made an appointment to come by and test drive and inspect it. The guy came over took it for a spin and loved it. He wanted to buy it but he was trying to get rid of his truck. I asked him if he would be interested in letting me look at it and then possibly do a trade if the truck is able to pull a trailer with two jet skis. He said sure. He brought the truck over a week later and I couldn't believe how beautiful and clean this truck was. I was happy that it was a Diesel and had a V8 in it which definitely assured me that the truck could pull anything!

Since Byron was at work in Mexico still, I took the truck for a ride, I fell in love with everything. The exterior, interior, engine was clean and new, it only had 47,000 miles on it, there were no oil or transmission leaks, the brakes were still 50%, the tire tread had another year on it and I continued to love the truck even more! I knew that I would never be able to get a hold of Byron since I am only able to email him and then I have to wait for his phone call... So I did what any GREAT WIFE would do: I made a wise decision and I bought it. So we made the trade! The guy loved our jeep SO much that he only wanted $3500 on top of the trade. I said No Problem! Knowing that Byron would trust my decision (since he loves trucks too and I knew he would see the wise financial decision I made), I told him about it "after-the-fact" (after buying and trading vehicles) and he agreed with me with complete enthusiasm! He couldn't believe we traded our 1999 Jeep Wrangler Sport that is worth $10,500 for a 2003 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD Diesel Pickup that is worth $24,500! So basically, after the trade and cash... we scored a hefty amount of money worth in assets with the truck alone.

We think we made a wise decision!
